Q. DO I NEED TO GET PERMITS TO INSTALL?

A. You may need to get proper permitting to install these components. Check with your local building department for more information.

Q. WHAT ARE THE ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR AN INFRARED SAUNA?

A. Electrical requirements can vary for each custom sauna, the specific electrical requirements for your sauna are stated in the supplied floor plan drawing that you receive with your quote.

Q. WHAT TYPE OF INSULATION SHOULD I USE?

A. You can use foil-faced insulation, batts, rolls, blankets, and spray foam insulation. The minimum requirement is r-13 or higher for interior walls

Q. WHAT TYPE OF WALL FRAMING SHOULD I USE?

A. We recommend a minimum of 2 x 4 wood framing for the walls and bench framing.

Q. WHERE DOES THE RELAY BOX GO?

A. The relay box should go to an adjacent mechanical room or inside the sauna cabin underneath the bench seat.

Q. WHERE DOES THE THERMOSTAT GO?

A. The sauna is required to have at least (1) thermostat controller inside the cabin. The kit comes with (2) so you can place a secondary thermostat controller on the exterior as well. Use a low-voltage conduit.

Q. WHERE DOES THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR GO?

A. The temperature sensor is to be located 6” below the ceiling, centered on the wall opposite the door. Use a low-voltage conduit.

Q. HOW SHOULD I ORIENTATE THE TONGUE AND GROOVE BOARDS?

A. The tongue and grove boards can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or even diagonally in an infrared sauna.

Q. WHERE SHOULD THE VENT GO? 

A. The vent should be placed on any of the walls, that do not have a door.

Q. DO I NEED TO USE DRYWALL?

A. Yes, drywall is required. use ½” for residential and ⅝” for commercial saunas.

Q. HOW SHOULD I BUILD UP THE FLOORING FOR AN INFRARED SAUNA?

A. Depending on if you’re building from joist or concrete the process differs slightly. 

Concrete slab:  Use furring strips to level the floor then adhere ¾” plywood. 

Joist:  Adhere ¾“ plywood down and secure to the joist.

Q. WHERE DOES THE TONGUE AND GROOVE PANELING GO?

A. The tongue and groove paneling goes on the walls, floor, and ceiling.

Q. WHERE DOES THE SMOOTH-EDGED PANELING GO?

A. The smooth-edged boards (s4s) are used to clad the bench seat and bench riser.

Q. HOW SHOULD I BUILD THE BENCH FRAMING?

A. Make sure to secure the bench framing to the wall framing of the cabin for stability. You may also want to add a plywood substrate for more support.

Q. WHAT ARE THE DOOR REQUIREMENTS?

1. Doors cannot swing into the sauna cabin

2. No locking mechanisms

3. Wood doors must have a transparent viewing window for safety.              

4. All glass doors must be transparent for safety.

5. Glass used must be tempered and insulated.

Q.  I HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION, SHOULD I USE INFRARED SAUNAS?

A.We recommend speaking with your physician before using a sauna.

Q. ARE THE SAUNAS CUSTOM-BUILT LIKE THE CONSUMER MODELS?

A. No, the custom saunas are not prebuilt like the prefabricated models. Custom components will need to be permanently installed and hardwired.

Q. WHO DOES THE INSTALLATION?

A. The installation is to be performed by a licensed electrician and carpenter. Clearlight is a material supplier and does not perform in-person services, labor, or installation.

Q. CAN I DESIGN THE SAUNA TO MY OWN SPECIFICATIONS?

A. Yes, in most cases we can meet client requests however in instances where there may be a UL or warranty issue we will notify and provide alternative suggestions.

Q. CAN THE KITS BE SPECIFIED FOR ADA COMPLIANCE?

A. Yes, you can select ADA Compliant option on the quote intake form. Click here to complete the form.

Q. WHAT IS THE SMALLEST SIZE SAUNA THAT CAN BE MADE WITH YOUR CUSTOM KITS?

A. The smallest size room we can supply is 36” x 36” x 72” finished interior dimensions.

Q. CAN YOU MEASURE THE SAUNA FOR ME?

A. We are based in Berkeley, CA, and do not offer any in-person services. Measurements will need to be taken on-site and verified against the supplied Clearlight supplied floor plan

Q. HOW HOT DO CUSTOM INFRARED SAUNAS GET?

A. Far Infrared saunas are designed to max out between 115-130°F at the end of a 60-minute session so long as the starting ambient air temperature is between 68-72°F.

Q. WHAT SHOULD I BUDGET FOR MY CUSTOM INFRARED SAUNA HEATER KIT?

A. It’s difficult to ballpark the budget for a custom sauna as there are a lot of variables that can affect the cost of the sauna. Click here to receive a free itemized quote and floor plan.

Q. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO INSTALL?

A. The installation timeline varies based on several variables (new construction, retrofit, size, etc). When you place your order you’ll be assigned a technician to walk you and your team through the installation process and answer any questions.

Q. DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?

A. We can ship directly to Canada, all other international locations will require using a US-based freight forwarder.

Q. WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE HEATER KITS?

A. The custom sauna kit does not include the following (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Doors

  • Windows

  • Labor

  • Installation

  • Wall Framing

  • Bench Framing

  • Wall Insulation

  • Decorative Lighting

Q. WHAT ACCESSORIES ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE KIT?

A. THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE KIT

  • Decorative Lighting

  • Soundsystem/Speakers/Audio Receiver

  • Bluetooth Capabilities

  • WIFI/App Control Capabilities

Q. ARE THE HEATER PANELS USED IN THE KIT LOW-EMF?

A. Yes, however, due to the electrical wiring throughout the sauna you will need additional EMF abatement tools and products. We recommend working with an EMF abatement contractor to specify components for your sauna.

Q. HOW DO THE COMPONENTS SHIP?

A. The sauna equipment ships via UPS in several boxes of varying weights and sizes and the lumber ships via LTL freight on a pallet that’s 98 x 48” with varying height and weight.

Q. WHAT IS THE ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENT FOR THE SAUNA?

A. The electrical requirements for your will be stated on your floor plan.

Q. CAN I JUST PURCHASE THE HEATERS INDIVIDUALLY?

A. The heaters are not sold individually, in order to ensure UL and warranty compliance.

Q. HOW DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE A QUOTE?

A. Generally, it takes 3-5 business days to receive an itemized quote and floor plan drawing.

Q. CAN I BUILD A PREFABRICATED SAUNA WITH THESE COMPONENTS?

A. You can, however, it is far more time and cost effective to purchase a prefabricated sauna as the custom saunas have a lot of costs associated with them such as freight, installation/labor cost, etc…

Q. ARE THE FAR INFRARED HEATERS IN THE PREFAB SAUNAS DIFFERENT THAN THE FAR INFRARED PANELS USED IN THE KITS?

A. The infrared panels used in custom saunas are the same as the prefabricated saunas, however, the wattage per panel is much higher.

Q. HOW LONG IS THE LEAD TIME ONCE I’M “READY TO ORDER”?

A. The lead time for production on an order is 4-6 weeks from the date of authorization.

Q. WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?

A. Because of the customization and nature of the sale - All Sales Are Final after the sauna components have left our custody. Please make sure to verify the dimensions, electrical requirements, and measurements prior to approving the floor plan and quote.

Q. WHAT TYPE OF DOOR SHOULD I GET?

A. Doors must meet the following requirements for UL compliance:

  1. Doors cannot swing into the sauna and must swing out; double-acting doors are acceptable.

  2. Doors cannot have locking mechanisms; cannot be locked from the interior or exterior

  3. Wood doors must have a clear glass viewing window.

  4. Doors with glass must not be frosted, tinted or translucent to maintain visibility if sauna bathers need assistance.

Q. WHAT IS YOUR SHIPPING POLICY?

A. UPS shipments will come in multiple boxes of varying sizes. When you receive your tracking information, please keep track of the number of boxes in your shipment and notify us if any boxes are missing within 5 business days of receiving the rest of the shipment so we can assist in locating the order.  

Freight shipments are heavy loads. Please use proper tools and precautions to receive and unload shipments. There are no inside delivery options at this time due to COVID-19 precautions.
